Road Construction Begins At Hilltop

The Jonesboro City Council approved zoning and conceptual plans for the development in 2014, but after some initial clearing, nothing has happened on the property since. Workers for KEG Construction began work on the site Wednesday, said Gary Harpole, a principal at Halsey Thrasher Harpole, the commercial real estate company that’s developing the land. Work will include a major east-west worad to connect with Arkansas 351, some side streets, drainage improvements and installation of water, sewer and electric utilities.

Sales Tax Revenue Continues Record Pace, Area Job Growth Steady

Craighead County and its seat, Jonesboro, continue to exhibit steady economic growth as 2016 nears its end. Jonesboro has collected $15.898 million in city sales tax through November, a 4.8% increase from the same time in 2015, according to the city. The city’s all-time record for tax receipts collected is $16.591 million set in 2015. Jonesboro collected $1.416 million in November, up 3.98% from the previous November. City officials anticipated $16.777 million would be collected in 2106, and the collections are still 3.3% ahead of that projection
